About Whole Health Pediatrics:

Your child isn’t a cookie, so their health care shouldn’t be a cookie cutter approach.  At Whole Health Pediatrics, we believe that every child is unique, and their health care should reflect that individuality. We focus on treating the whole child—mind, body, and spirit—to achieve optimal wellness and prevent future illnesses. Rather than simply managing symptoms, we uncover the root cause(s) of health concerns, ensuring that your child thrives. Our provider, Dr. McDermott, is a board-certified Pediatrician with Integrative Medicine and Functional Medicine training.

This clinic is not for walk-ins, urgent care or emergencies.

While symptoms (ie headache, stomach pain, etc.) can be the same, the root cause, or reason, can be different with each patient.  This is why we take a tailored approach.  We spend the necessary time to understand each patient's physical, emotional, psychological, social, and spiritual needs.  Our comprehensive treatment plans are based on detailed histories, physical exams, and relevant tests.  We blend the best of allopathic (western) medicine with evidence-based integrative therapies to meet the needs of each patient. This includes essential aspects of wellness such as sleep, exercise, nutrition, mind-body practices, spirituality, and social/family dynamics.  Additionally, appropriate use of labs, supplements, and medications can be utilized.  We offer evidence-based conventional and alternative treatments, such as dietary changes, nutritional supplements, pharmaceutical medications, lifestyle management, homeopathic and herbal medicines, and ensure thorough follow-ups through office visits or telehealth.

Our services cover a wide range of pediatric issues including, but not limited to:

Services Q & A
Does Whole Health Pediatrics see sick or same day appointments?
No.  If your child is sick they should see their regular Pediatrician or if needed go to UC or the ER.
We do not take insurance.  Payments are due at time of visit.

We can provide an itemized superbill that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement after you have made payment to our office. Many insurers provide reimbursements for an “out-of-network” provider but this will vary depending on your specific plan.  If you have a PPO insurance plan and have met your deductible, it is likely that a large percentage of the charges will be reimbursed to you at the out-of-network rate.  You can usually obtain claim submission forms on the website of your insurance carrier. In addition, services may be applied towards qualified medical expenses if you have a Health Reimbursement Account (HRA) through your employer or Health Savings Account (HSA).

You do not need a referral to be seen at Whole Health Pediatrics.  Some insurances will only reimburse with a prior authorization (approved referral).  You would need to check with your insurance company to see if that applies.

After an appointment is scheduled, you will be asked to fill out an in-depth questionnaire.  This is required to be completed at least 72 hours before your scheduled appointment.  This way, Dr. McDermott has the opportunity to read through the responses, review any medical history/paperwork from previous providers/specialists, and research to prepare for the clinic visit.  During the visit, vitals will be taken, an applicable physical exam performed, and further discussion of the concern.  Dr. McDermott uses a collaborative approach with the family to determine the next steps forward.

The 1 hour intake visit is $360. Charges are $90 for every 15 minutes and follow up visits will tend to last 15-30 minutes ($90-$180). You only pay for the time in the clinic/telemedicine visits. Included in the cost is the review of all questionnaires, available records, time spent researching, as well as the clinic time with Dr. McDermott. Unlike other clinics where you fill out paperwork in the office, with Whole Health Pediatrics you will electronically fill out the questionnaire 72 hours prior to the appointment. The goal is to get information ahead of time so the time in the clinic is efficient, productive to allow time to develop a thorough plan forward for the family. Please keep in mind that Whole Health Pediatrics does not charge to set up accounts, an annual or monthly fee. If needed, the family will pay for any labs, imaging, prescriptions, or supplements.

Dr. Laura McDermott

Dr. Laura McDermott

I’m an integrative medicine pediatrician, mom of 2 amazing boys, who is married to a wonderful man. Before entering medical school, I knew I wanted to be a pediatrician - #1 because I absolutely adore this age group – from newborns to teenagers and #2 because it’s the best opportunity to incorporate preventative medicine and work with families to put kids on their best path for life. After Residency, I joined a traditional outpatient clinic and I absolutely loved my families. After several years, I realized that while I was able to incorporate some preventative medicine, I ended up doing a lot of “symptom management”. In a traditional clinic, it’s near impossible to spend enough time with a patient and family to get the whole picture to do a root cause analysis. As a result, I left my clinic, trained in Integrative medicine and did my own research to better help my patients. I am excited to open Whole Health Pediatrics and to partner with parents to make the best healthcare decisions for their children.
